Metro Chamber Orchestra (Concerts)

April 25, 2010 7:30 PM

After its stunning live accompaniment to the silent film” The Passion of Joan of Arc” in January, the Metro Chamber Orchestra concludes it’s Seventh Season, Sunday evening, April 25, 2010, with a gala concert featuring two exciting premieres, one by a well know master and the other by a relative newcomer.

Arnold Schoenberg, long known as the father of Twentieth Century Music is also known for music of the street; Cabaret!  The MCO proudly presents the long overdue New York premiere of Schoenberg’s “Seven Cabaret Songs”, in a chamber orchestra arrangement by Davin.  Soloist to be announced.

Continuing the MCO tradition of commissioning new works, Maestro Philip Nuzzo will lead the orchestra in “Born in Buenos Aires” by the Argentine born composer Sebastian Pablo Modarelli. This exciting work, featuring the virtuoso wind section of the Metro Chamber Orchestra, evokes the flavor of Argentina with hints of the great Piazzolla. Punctuated with traditional rhythms, Modarelli has captured the soul of his country in this exciting tour de force. `

Back by popular demand, pianist Christopher Vath again pairs with MCO concert master Una Tone in the beautiful Mendelssohn Concerto for Piano and Violin in d minor. Rounding out the program is Debussy’s stunning “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” in the celebrated arrangement by Arnold Schoenberg.
