About

We thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food... and for assuring us that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. BCP, 366
Christ & Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church is the oldest church on Manhattan's Upper West Side. We are a parish in the Diocese of New York of The Episcopal Church and a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
The Old and New Testaments of The Holy Bible are our foundation, understood through tradition and reason. Our worship is filled with Scripture from beginning to end -- and follows the rites set forth in the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church and incorporates the beautiful sacred music of The Hymnal 1982.
We are a diverse congregation of old and young, rich and poor, Black and white, gay and non-gay alike, individuals and families with children... We welcome all who seek a deeper knowledge of God and of God's son, Jesus Christ.
As Christians we are called to serve one another through outreach ministries to those in need. We seek to enhance our understanding of God through education programs for adults and children. We join in joyful fellowship with one another.
Wherever you are on your spiritual journey -- a lifelong Episcopalian, a Christian of another tradition, a seeker after an experience of God, or a spiritual pilgrim just beginning a sojourn in search of the holy -- you are welcome to join us as we seek to know, praise and serve God and one another.
Welcome!

The people of the parish of Christ & St. Stephen's extend a very cordial welcome to you and hope you will feel at home here. As you look around our church, you will see that we represent a wide variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. We have members who are young and older, liberal and conservative, single and married, divorced and widowed, gay people, and families with child…

The clergy help proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, through their words and actions. They proclaim the love of God through his forgiveness to those who are penitent, they pronounce God’s blessing, and share in the administration of the Sacraments, as well as the other ministrations entrusted to them.
The staff provide support to the clergy, care for parishioners, and help to ensure that all ministries of the church run smoothly.
