Bible Study: The Emmaus Walk

Monday, August 8, 2022, 5:00 PM
“Were not our hearts burning within us
while he was talking to us on the road,
while he was opening the scriptures to us?”
When the disciples were walking along the road to Emmaus, Jesus himself – as the stranger – opened their eyes and hearts to scripture. The Emmaus Walk is more of a ‘conversation’ about scripture than a ‘bible study,’ in any formal sense. No need to study, compare or contrast translations, or contrast various accounts of the same scene – just bring a willingness to open your heart and mind to hear the voice of Jesus through a conversation with fellow pilgrims.
Alonso Cano, Christ and Two Followers on the Road to Emmaus, oil on canvas, between 1635 and 1650. Walters Art Museum, Mount Vernon-Belvedere, Baltimore, Maryland.
