More Info on Friends of Music
How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity! Psalm 133:1
The Friends of Music at Christ & Saint Stephen’s invites parish members and non-members to support the music program and take part in the musical life of the parish through special services & concerts. Since its founding in 2006, the Friends of Music have made it possible for us to offer a concert series of national and internationally renowned musicians, which have included Organists: Thomas Murray, Bruce Neswick, Isabelle Demers, David Enlow, Benjamin Sheen, Christopher Houlihan, Paul Jacobs, Nigel Potts (as well as staff organist Parker Ramsay); The Ullern Chamber Choir from Oslo, Norway; The Guildford Cathedral Choir of Men & Boys (UK); St. Salvator's Chapel Choir, University of St. Andrews, Scotland; Tenor Gregory Lorenz; Mezzo-Soprano Sarah Rose Taylor; Pianist/Organist Jeremy Filsell; Italian Pianist Sandro Russo and Guitarist Jerry Willard. The professional choir has also performed in concert with guest conductor Paul Spicer from England.
Several of our guest musicians have been generous in performing as a benefit concert to the Friends of Music fund, and we remain extremely grateful to them.
The Friends of Music also supplement exceptional choral music for special worship services throughout the year by covering costs that exceed our annual music budget. In past years these have included the addition of brass at Christmas Eve services, visiting guest organists to accompany our choir for services such as All Souls & Lent Evensongs, Bishop Visitations, Advent Lessons and Carols, and Concerts of performed by our Professional Choir of Coronation Music and Fallen Heroes - Commemorating the Assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK.
The season begins each September and continues through August. If you are not a Friend this season, we invite to you to join or renew your support with a tax deductible gift, by sending a check payable to ‘Christ & Saint Stephen's Church’ with Friends of Music in the memo line. You are welcome to make your gift ‘in memory of’ or ‘in thanksgiving for’ a loved one. All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
