Building & Grounds

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matthew 6:28-29

As with any aging building our beautiful church, erected in 1878, requires continuous care and maintenance. The Building and Grounds Committee is charged with maintaining  the grounds, physical plant and structure of CSS. We cover aspects that include our garden as well as our roof and ceiling, walls and windows, electrical, lighting and sound systems, plumbing and heating and cooling systems. We not only address needs as they arise but engage in longterm planning for future projects before they become major problems.

If you have a talent and interest in lending your expertise consulting on various issues of  building maintenance contact Cullen Wheeler at cullen.wheeler3@gmail.com.

Garden Guild

Our garden was newly designed for the churchyard in 2017. Our garden is much-loved and much-used: one section is a sacred space for burial of cremation remains; the Wednesday Holy Eucharist is held in the garden (weather permitting); Coffee Hour often takes place there; and other church events are also often held there.

The Garden Guild maintains the garden. Group work sessions are scheduled according to the garden’s needs and the availability of group members. All are welcome; no gardening experience is necessary. Contact Joellen Schertz via the Parish Office (cssnycparishoffice@gmail.com) for more information.
