MAUNDY THURSDAY
5:30 p.m. AGAPE’ MEAL in the Undercroft
The agape’ meal or “love meal” is a meal closely connected to the Eucharist that was shared by early Christians. As we gather this night to remember Christ’s command to love one another, we conclude this simple meal of meatless soup, cheese, olives, bread, and wine with our entrance into the church for Eucharist.
7:00 p.m. HOLY EUCHARIST in the Church
From the Latin word “mandatum” (mandate), the liturgy on Maundy Thursday recalls for us Christ’s command to love one another as he loves us enacted in the washing of feet. We strip the altar to prepare for the solemnity of Good Friday. The repose of the blessed sacrament occurs in a separate chapel area.

This is the principal service of the Christian year! We light and bless the new fire from which the Paschal Candle is lit, symbolizing the light of Christ as the Exsultet is chanted. We bless the waters of our baptism, renewing our faith and making the proclamation of Easter as we celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter. A champagne toast follows.
